In a world where
boys are told
not to cry,
I tell mine that
I hear him.
I hear him and
I am here for him.
That he is smart,
intelligent, kind.
That he is
not to be bound
by gendered norms
but simply be
a good human.
For he’s a gift
like our neighbour’s
little girl-child.
We hear them.
